Laundry Storage Hacks for Large Families to Save Time and Headaches

Laundry is one of the most hated chores across the board, even more so when you have a large family. When you have a large family, it can feel like you’re always doing laundry, every day of the week. Thankfully, there are many tips and tricks that can help you expedite the process and make it feel less like a chore.

Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent or a working one, having to do laundry at the end of a long day can be absolutely exhausting. If you have a laundry room that isn’t well organized or is too small, these tasks can feel even more stressful and annoying.

To take the headache out of doing laundry with a big family, follow these tips and tricks.

Have a Routine

By having a routine and scheduling when laundry needs to get done, you’ll be able to more easily accomplish your laundry goals. Also, if you schedule out your laundry days, you won’t feel like you’re spending all your time doing laundry.

If you have children, choose one or two days (depending on how many children you have) to get their laundry done. Choose another day for your own laundry. Only do laundry on these two days. If you have an especially large house, you may also want to schedule a laundry day for towels and other miscellaneous home items that need to be cleaned.

Fold and Iron Immediately Afterwards

On your scheduled laundry days, you should always fold, iron, and put away the clothes right after you washed them. If you leave them out, you’ll feel more stressed about accomplishing this task. A pile of clean laundry on the floor is always daunting, and always something that gets pushed back days and days until you have to do laundry again anyways.

By folding, ironing, and putting your clothes away immediately after doing laundry, you’ll eliminate spill over of this chore into other days.

Declutter Your Closet

If you’re always feeling like you have too much laundry to do every week, you may want to try decluttering your closet. When you have less clothing, you’ll have less laundry to do.

Analyze your closet. Look at what you wear often and what you don’t. Donate the clothing you don’t wear very often and throw away anything that’s stained or warn-out beyond repair.

Keep Your Laundry Room Organized with Storage Solutions from Art of Drawers

If your laundry room is crowded, unorganized, or inaccessible, using storage solutions designed by Art of Drawers might be the best way to make the process of doing your laundry easier on you. Whether you have a small laundry room or a large one, we offer many ways to customize your storage solutions to best fit your needs.

Pull-Out Drawers

Pull-out drawers are a great addition to any cabinets you may have in your laundry room. They may it easier to see everything inside a cabinet at once, while also maximizing the space you have available.

With pull-out drawers you’ll be less likely to repurchase the same items or let things expire, saving you money in the long run!

Over-the-Door Storage Options

If you have a small laundry room, over-the-door storage is a great option. If you lack shelving (some laundry rooms don’t have any storage at all) you can keep your laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and backup products here.

Drawer Inserts

If you have drawers in your laundry room and you find that they turn into junk drawers no matter how often you organize them, you may need to use drawer organizers. Drawer organizers are a great way to divide up the items in each drawer. They also make it so you can see everything at once, making items easier to find.

By using drawer inserts, you’ll spend much less time looking for things, and more time actually getting your laundry done, saving you time overall.

Pull-Down Storage

If you’re looking to make your laundry room more accessible, whether you live with an older loved one or have a family member that is disabled, pull-down shelving units are a great way to make hard to reach or heavy items more easily accessible.

These shelves pull out and down, bringing items down to your level. With pull-down shelves installed, everyone in your home will be able to access items they may not have been able to before.

Thank goodness for discovering Art of Drawers! We recently downsized and found ourselves with an itty-bitty pantry and limited cabinet space. After a family referral, we contacted AOD for an estimate. From start to finish, they were completely professional.

We are so pleased to have pantry drawers to fit our needs exactly as wevhad envisioned. Downsizing meant less storage space so it helped tremendously to turn this kitchen pantry under a staircase into pull out drawers. It is still a walk-in pantry too! Thank you and we highly recommend this organizational and storage need to everyone.
